Milkwood Flies the Flag

One of L&Q’s flagship neighbourhood improvement schemes has won a prestigious environmental award.

Residents of Milkwood Road in Lambeth raised money and worked closely with L&Q, Quadrant Community Investment, Lambeth Council and other partners to transform a neglected park into an eye-catching open space that is the pride of the whole community.

The project has now won a highly sought-after Green Flag Award, which marks it out as a benchmark of excellence for public green spaces.

To be eligible for a Green Flag Award sites must be accessible to the public and have a specific management plan for the site.

Judges then assess the plan and visit the site to mark it in eight categories:

• A welcoming place
• Healthy, safe and secure
• Clean and well maintained
• Sustainability
• Conservation and heritage
• Community Involvement
• Marketing
• Management
  Milkwood Open Space will receive a flag and certificate to display and is featured on the Green Flag website.

The awards are run by The Civic Trust, a national charity that campaigns for improved standards in public spaces.
