Bexley / Greenwich: estate celebrates 50 years

The New Eltham estate had a double celebration recently. L&Q held a residents’ barbeque to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the inauguration of the estate, and the life of the founder of Beaver Housing Society.

The New Eltham estate straddles the boroughs of Greenwich and Bexley. It was built by Beaver Housing Society and - with around 260 homes - was one of its largest estates. Founder Colonel Stuart Roberts died just a few months after its inauguration.

Residents, ex-Beaver staff and local MP Clive Efford enjoyed a fantastic barbeque and jazz duo. The family of Colonel Roberts also came along and met residents, some of whom have been living there since it was built and remember Colonel Roberts.

Beaver became part of the L&Q Group in 2005 and L&Q now manages just over 230 homes on the New Eltham estate.
