Statement re new Forest South Residents’ Association
Richard Southall, Housing Manager for L&Q Forest Homes, said: “L&Q Forest Homes was heavily involved in helping set up the Forest South Residents’ Association and we look forward to hearing what the residents have to say and working with them on a number of important issues.
“As part of the transfer of properties from the Council to L&Q Forest Homes in September 2002 we agreed a seven-year improvement programme, an important part of which has been working with the police to tackle anti-social behaviour.
“We are in constant contact with the police as part of the Safer Neighbourhoods Scheme and we worked extremely successfully with the police to close down crack houses as part of our award-winning Forest Homes Community Plan.
“We have also been striving to bring young people from various backgrounds together at our Defending Da Hood community events, which have been a really big hit.
“L&Q’s STEP programme has also helped reduce anti-social behaviour by giving local young people the chance to learn construction skills with a view to getting a job in the construction industry.”
He added: “If non-L&Q residents cause anti-social behaviour on our estates, we will seek injunctions preventing them from entering those estates. If L&Q residents are responsible for anti-social behaviour, we will request a meeting with them to discuss the concerns, and if this is not successful we will take legal action, which in the past has included evicting persistent offenders.”
