Do I qualify to buy my home?
As a general rule you have a right to buy your home:
- If you were a tenant of a local authority and L&Q became your landlord via a stock transfer and you hold a protected assured tenancy you will have the right to buy your home.
- If you hold a secure tenancy (normally tenancies commenced before 1989) and your landlord was not originally L&Q and was not a charitable housing trust.
- If your property was built or purchased using Social Housing Grant after 1 April 1997.
- If your property was transferred from a Local Authority after 1 April 1997.
There are exceptions to the above so even if you appear to meet the criteria, there could still be instances where your Right to Buy or Right to Acquire is denied.
