Improving energy efficiency

Energy Saving Bulb

Saving energy could save you money

Gas and electricity bills seem to be rocketing lately, so what better time to think about ways of saving energy.
Very often it is the little things we can do that will add up over time to help shave pounds off those bills.
Lighting, for example, accounts for 10 to 15 per cent of the total electricity bill in most homes. Since 1970 our electricity consumption for domestic lights has doubled, but by simply switching to special energy-saving light bulbs you will use 75 per cent less energy than a normal bulb – that’s a saving of £7 per bulb, per year.
If every household installed three of these, the energy saved in a year would supply all street lighting in the UK.

Laundry, refrigeration and dishwashing also use a lot of energy. Nationally we spend £800 million a year powering washing machines, tumble dryers and dish washers and a staggering £1.2 billion running fridges and freezers.
When you next replace these white goods, why not take a look at energy saving models. An energy saving washing machine uses a third less water than older models, while energy saving dishwashers use 40 per cent less energy than normal ones.
As well as helping the planet, these energy savings will all reduce your fuel bills.

Here at L&Q we take energy saving extremely seriously too and do a number of things to ensure the homes we build retain heat and don’t waste energy.
