In recent years there have been two serious accidents involving scalding water caused by faulty thermostats in the immersion heater.
Neither of these accidents happened at L&Q properties, but we have nevertheless arranged for contractors to survey homes where we believe the immersion heater does not have a safety cut-out mechanism that trips if there is ever a problem with the thermostat.
There may a problem with your thermostat if there are any of the following things happening:
• Hot water coming out of the hot water taps
• Lots of noise or bubbling sounds coming from the hot water cylinder
• Hot water coming out of cold taps
• Hot water in the toilet cistern
• Steam or moisture in the roof space
If you notice any of the above problems you should switch off the immersion heater system and notify L&Q immediately so we can arrange for a plumber to come and check the thermostat.
