Michael

coffee morning

Nominated by the local authority, 69-year-old Michael gave up his bedsit with shared facilities and moved into a well-appointed one-bedroom property in a sheltered housing complex.

An extremely private person with low self esteem and little interest in his appearance or personal hygiene, he often felt isolated and lonely, but was apprehensive about living as part of a close knit community.

At first Michael rarely went to scheme meetings or coffee mornings but gradually, as his confidence grew, he sat on the periphery of the group watching.

His confidence continued to grow as did his self esteem and pride in his appearance. He is now an integral part of the scheme and is the first to offer help and assistance to other new residents.
