The 3R’s - Reduce, Reuse & Recycle

There are lots of things that everyone can do which will cut down on the amount of waste created, and save money at the same time. Here are some top tips to help you!

  1. Old glasses can be given in to opticians who can then recycle them for people around the world in need.
  2. Take bags with you when going shopping rather than getting more from the shops.
  3. Cut down on the amount of packaging you use – buy fruit and vegetables lose rather than in bags.
  4. Reuse any plastic bags you do collect in small bins instead of buying more bin-bags.
  5. Take your own lunch to work rather than buying take-away food. Not only will you cut down on waste you will also save money.
  6. Say no to a phone upgrade. Apart from cutting down on waste, many companies will offer you free minutes or some other deal in return for holding on to your current phone. If you do change your phone you can recycle your old one.
  7. Donate usable things to charity rather than throwing them away.
  8. Save money and eliminate waste by sending e-cards instead of paper ones.
  9. Sign up to cut down on the amount of junk mail you get - Through this site you can cut down on junk mail addressed to previous residents too.
  10. Buy fruit and vegetables loose rather than putting them into plastic bags.
