The streets of Stockwell were bathed in sunshine and crowded with revellers as local people came out to enjoy the "Greening the Streets" party.
About 150 people took part in the event organised by residents group Streets Ahead and supported by L&Q, Hyde South Bank and Lambeth & Southwark Housing Association, the main landlords in the area.
The aim of the day was to celebrate and develop the community atmosphere in this area of mixed tenure Victorian street properties and raise awareness of issues such as the environment and street life in its different aspects.
The L&Q team was on hand to promote the themes of the day with two stands, one promoting a greener lifestyle and another raising awareness about gun crime and the borough’s programme to tackle this problem. Young people were encouraged to engage in the Peace Week theme through participation in a street art workshop.
Maud Gambier Ellis, Neighbourhood Investment Officer in L&Q’s South neighbourhood, said: "This was a very successful event with plenty of live music, crowds, good humour and sun.
"There was lots for everyone to do and the atmosphere was relaxed as the local residents took hold of Morat Street for a really successful party. It was a shining example of how residents from across a mix of tenures can get together to have a positive impact on their neighbourhood."
