The 26th April saw the second meeting of the North Thames Region’s youth forum at Stratford Circus, Stratford.
The group aims to represent young L&Q residents from across the region, highlight youth issues, promote activities and lobby for the provision of worthwhile and viable youth facilities and services.
During Saturday’s meeting, the forum was asked to comment on the North Thames Region’s youth strategy. The group was also formally constituted, which means that it will be able to apply for funding to promote and manage projects devised by young people for young people in the future.
Members of the youth forum really want to make a difference to the lives of young people in L&Q homes and have already started developing projects to do this. In particular the forum is investigating the potential of multi-media projects in order to engage young people in discussing anti-social behaviour and gain accredited qualifications in filming techniques. A further project which the forum are looking into is a possible pan London youth conference to be held in 2009.
Neighbourhood Investment Coordinator Ciaran Porter was pleased with meeting; “The day was really positive and represents a real attempt by young people from across North London to make a real difference to the place in which they live.”
The youth forum will meet again in July where they will look at the issues facing young people who live within L&Q homes across North London.
