L&Q shortlisted in two categories at the 2008 UK Housing Awards

The awards organised by trade magazine Inside Housing and the Chartered Institute of Housing are designed to recognise excellence across the sector.

The two categories L&Q has been shortlisted in are ‘Creating integrated communities’ and ‘Meeting housing needs and aspirations’.

‘Creating integrated communities’

This award recognises the key role that housing plays in bringing communities together. L&Q’s South East Neighbourhood has been shortlisted in this category for the Haddo Community Facility Steering Group.

The Group was originally formed in 2002 to respond to the proposed building of a new community facility at the Haddo Estate, Greenwich which runs in line with the considerable housing re-development that is taking place.

The Group, which is made up of local stakeholders and residents, has been working for over six years and has overseen the consultation process, supported the integration and development of the new community and developed management arrangements for the community facility.

The goal of the Group was to establish a successful, sustainable and vibrant community facility that would be the hub of the local community; engage local partners and people and delivers valuable services.

‘Meeting housing needs and aspirations’

L&Q was entered by the North East Neighbourhood for this category for the More choice on the housing menu at L&Q scheme. With over-crowding and a lack of housing choices still a major problem across London and the South East, L&Q is engaged in a number of projects to try to increase the supply of larger homes and reduce the demand for them.

More choice on the housing menu at L&Q is a pilot scheme running in our North Thames region which offers a variety of solutions to this problem including:

• larger family homes
• extensions
• deconversions
• bedsit incentive schemes
• under occupation schemes
• choice based lettings
